The bet9ja app has cropped up by many of our followers as being regarded as Nigeria’s best betting app. We, therefore, decided to try it out for ourselves and gave it some rigorous testing over a two week period across multiple mobile devices. Our findings are laid out in this review.
How to get the Bet9ja app
To be able to bet on the Bet9ja app we first needed to register a Bet9ja account. We needed to provide an email address. We then had to verify the address by tapping through the link that was included in the Bet9ja verification email to begin.
We were guided all the way through the registration process and was up and running in a matter of minutes. You can register directly from this page by tapping in the banner below.
Depositing and withdrawing funds on Bet9ja
Once we had registered we then had the option to deposit funds straight away so that we could then bet using the Bet9ja app. Choice of deposit method was wide with most credit/debit cards being accepted, as well as the option of a direct bank transfer.
Here is a full list of deposit methods available;
- Naria debit card (Verve, Interswitch, Mastercard, Visa
- NIBSS Epay
- @MailMoni App
- GT bank transfer
- Paycom transfer
- Instant bank deposit
- QuickTeller Online
- ATM machines
- Polaris mobile deposit
Withdrawals are easy to request and efficiently processed too. Direct bank transfer is our preferred method of withdrawal and is available to Bet9ja account holders.
Installing the Bet9ja app
Once we had registered we then went ahead and saved the Bet9ja mobile optimised site as an app on our mobile device. We were able to do this from an iPhone, iPad, Android mobile phones/tablets and other Smart mobile devices able to connect to the internet.
The way to do this differs depending on the operating system and mobile browser used. However, there are three main ways to achieve this.
- Save the mobile home page as a bookmark within your mobile browser
- Add the mobile home page like a mobile browser favourite
- Add the mobile home page to your mobile device’s home page as the Bet9ja app.
The methods of adding are all demonstrated here in the image below from an Android device.
Our personal favourite method is adding to our home screen. This provided an app logo on our phone or tablet’s home screen so that it behaves and opens just like any other app.
Bet9ja app review
The app itself boasts a very traditional Nigerian look with a highly recognisable green and white theme to its design, fonts and interface.
The information is clear to digest and navigation was made simple thanks to intuitive menu systems. There was plenty of choice in terms of both sports and markets available within each sport offered. All major events across the world were covered and covered in detail.
We found the in-build odds Filter a handy tool to limit our results based on specific odd parameters. So if we were looking for a specific return from a set stake, this filter was able to clearly strip out the markets and selections that did not provide us with the return we were looking for.
Another handy feature of the app is having the ability to view the app in an ‘old mobile’ style mode which is fewer data-dependent and therefore is able to load and perform quicker in lower signal areas.
This is ideal if you are looking to place bets reliably outside of the urban areas. It doesn’t look quite as nice but still allows a smooth experience at minimal output levels.
You can see the difference between the original look and old look in the image below. The new look is on the left and the old look is on the right.
As you can see there is a significant difference between the two. The graphics and icons used in the data-intense version certainly do make the information stand out more. It provides a more immersive experience when there is a stable data connection.
However, this experience soon becomes frustrating when you do not have a reliable source of data in your area. Instead, you are left with a stuttering screen, slow load times and a hindered experience when trying to use the new version. This is why the basic version still serves a purpose and remains available to use.
The integrated statistics were used and relied upon across many days of our testing and beyond. This handy information is already inside the Bet9ja app meant that we didn’t have to keep switching between apps in order to get previous form/results and place bets.
There’s even live streaming available across different sports events so we were able to bet and watch the action unfold all from within the Bet9ja app. This. Can be quite data intensive so we would recommend connecting via Wi-Fi when looking to use the live streaming services.
Cashing out bets before the outcome has been settled is a feature that has been around Europe for some time. Finally, it is now coming to Africa thanks to Bet9ja. Now you can take a profit before the event has even finished and even make money on bets that end up losing!
Virtual betting and casino
On top of traditional sports betting, the app also hosts virtual betting across different sports. there is also a dedicated casino games section. We find this a welcome change every now and then and spend some time checking out the different types of games available within this section.
There are lots to check out in the casino section and all games can initially be played in a demo mode so that you can test the capabilities of each game and understand the mechanics behind it before betting any real money on them.
To summarise, we were very impressed by the overall package that the Bet9ja app brings. It looks smart, caters for users in low signal areas, has lots of choices, has good offers and a reliable team behind it. They provide excellent customer service both before and after registering. It comes recommended by us. Give it a try.
