Ukraine v Austria Match Preview & Trends

Who will go through with the Netherlands?

With both sides equal on 3 points apiece and only currently separated by goal difference, there is much to play for in Group C to see who follows Holland through to the knockout phase. Bucharest is the setting for this highly anticipated clash that will determine the outlook of the final standings with The Netherlands and North Macedonia already assured of finishing top and bottom respectively.

Austria needs to get their captain and star man, David Alaba into the game more. The decorated Bayern Munich legend who has just signed for Real Madrid is often too versatile for his own good despite being world-class in a number of positions. Having been picked in defense in the first two games, Alaba will hope to feature further forward where he can utilize his significant football brain to the fore and lead his country to victory. West Ham United’s Andrei Yarmalenko has scored twice so far and the influential forward will hope to spark his side into action once more as they lie on the verge of the last 16.  Could a cynical draw be played out to ensure both teams go through?

Ukraine covered 206.3km in the opening two rounds and have maintained a passing accuracy of 86% and averaging 44% possession. The Ukrainians have made 55 passes into the attacking third with 41 of those in key areas. They have completed 8/17 crosses, which left them at 47%. In comparison, Austria has covered 222.1km in the first two games, maintaining a passing accuracy of 82% and averaged 56% possession. The Austrians made 91 passes into the attacking third with 57 of those in key areas. They completed 11/35 crosses, which left them at 31%.
