Champions League final predictions

Champions league final predictions

Welcome to my 2019 Champions League final predictions post. This huge fixture in domestic football is upon us and the chess battle of tactics begin as one team tries to outdo the other on the football pitch in Madrid.

The attacking prowess of the red Liverpudlians find themselves up against the resilient, strong will of Tottenham Hotspur. On paper Liverpool have the stronger side, but with so much riding on a 90 minute period Spurs have the style of play that is more than capable of walking away victorious. Whatever happens, it’s hyped up to be a very interesting match indeed.

One thing that is being proven is that English football is on the up. Four English teams being represented in the European Cup finals will surely send out a big message to the rest of Europe, especially Spain, Italy, France and Germany. A big congratulations must also be said for Chelsea who turned up and duly delivered a fine second half performance to crush Arsenal in the Europa Cup final. Anyhow, on to my Champions League final predictions!

Champions’ League Final Predictions

Outright market

My heart and head are telling me that Liverpool will be the ones to ultimately lift the trophy.

With narrowly missing out on the League Championship, I feel Liverpool will stop at nothing to pick up this last chance of silverware. Liverpool held the best defence in the league, with Van Dijk setting an almost perfect example. I don’t see them letting their defensive qualities slip here and I see the attacking three of Liverpool achieving success on more than one occasion, in terms of finding the back of the Tottenham net.

Therefore, my money on the outright market will be Liverpool.

Liverpool to win – 19/20 (bet365 app)

Draw – 13/5 (bet365)

Tottenham win – 38/11 (10bet app)

Both teams to score

To boost my odds a little more on this bet I will also be adding the ‘and both teams to score’ option to bring the potential returns up to 14/5 (available at time of writing with William Hill and 888Sport). To think that the two teams reaching the most elite football match in Domestic European football will not be able to find the back of the net here is naive at best, and foolish at worst in my opinion. Especially in a final scenario.

At some point one team is going to have to chase if they go behind in the match. The more a team are behind the more they have to chase in this setting. Therefore it makes sense to me that game unfolds something like Liverpool taking a lead and adding another for a cushion – leading to Spurs pushing hard to get back in to the game. I am expecting them to succeed, but then possibly also get caught by leaving gaps at the back. Either way I see good value in the odds for both teams scoring.

Both teams to score yes – 3/4*

Both teams to score no – 11/10*

Liverpool to win and both teams to score – 14/5*

Draw and both teams to score – 19/5*

Spurs to win and both teams to score – 13/2*

So my Champions League final predictions summarised are that Liverpool will raise the Champions League trophy within the 90 minute timeframe  on a ‘scoring more than the opposition’ basis. Liverpool has been banging in the goals right the way through the season and I don’t see them moving away from that strategy here.

The arrival of Virgil Van Dijk has settled the ship tremendously for Liverpool, but I see a desperate, unpredictable play by Spurs in the latter stages leading them to get back into the game, if not just momentarily.

3-1 to Liverpool – 15/1*

4-1 to Liverpool – 40/1*

In terms of who will be doing the scoring, that should pretty much be a gimme. Salah, Mane, and Firmino are all viable contenders for Liverpool and it’s hard to look past Kane and Son for Spurs. Son has been in fine form throughout the season and has done a fine job of holding the fort in the absence of Harry Kane. Kane is rumoured to be back and if he starts will be a big contender to bag. He is a player that regularly steps up on the big stage. However, some of that sharpness may be lacking due to time off the pitch.

Mo Salah 13/8*

Mane 13/8*

Firmino 5/2*

Kane 37/19*

Son 7/2*

Mane and Salah are my early picks here. Although more time will be spent looking at this market once the teams have been announced. This is a safer way of approaching the goalscorer markets. It also leads to a slight dip in overall value in the odds offered.

A decent bet here may be to hedge on the two main contenders; Salah and Mane. One of them are very highly likely to pick it up if my prediction holds true in Liverpool winning by a comfortable margin. This doesn’t really do any justice to my Champions League final predictions as this is a highly likely outcome, but I will still have a smile on my face if this bet does indeed pay off.

Salah – 5/1*

Mane – 6/1*

If you fancy Liverpool to win by a tight margin, Van Dijk (10/1*) may well be a good shout in this instance to pick up the man of the match award. Similarly, if you fancy Spurs to win, the Kane option would then hold value to you at 6/1*. You can see our guide to the best football betting apps here and see who is top rated for odds,

That concludes my Champions League final predictions, thoughts and bets. These are by no means guaranteed, but I hope that my reasoning provides some substance behind the bet selections. Whatever you bet on, good luck and let’s all hope it’s a match to remember!
