Champions League final predictions

Welcome to my Champions League final predictions post. This huge fixture in domestic football is upon us and the chess battle of tactics begin as one team tries to outdo the other on the football pitch in Kiev.

The attacking prowess of the red Liverpudlians find themselves up against the fast countering wing attacks of Real Madrid. On paper Real Madrid have the stronger side, but with so much riding on a 90 minute period Liverpool have the style of play that is more than capable of walking away victorious.

Both teams have a good history of the tournament. Real Madrid more so in recent times, so you may consider those to have the edge. However there are conspiracy theories to contend with inasmuch as people saying that the game is fixed to see Liverpool win as part of another corruption scandal involving UEFA after they had mistakenly named Liverpool as 2017/18 Champions League winners two weeks ago on their site as reported by The Mirror.

The odds look where I would expect them to be for the outright markets, with Real Madrid favourites hovering just above evens, Liverpool around 2/1 and the draw around 3/1. This certainly isn’t a market that holds ‘lump-on-ability’ in my opinion, but is certainly a market I will be betting on to make the match more thrilling than what it is already set out to be.

Champions’ League Final Predictions.

My money on the outright market will be Liverpool. A little patriarchy slipping in, the green eyed monster staring at the more appealing odds, the fact Real Madrid have lost 6 games in the league this season (showing they are beatable in the right circumstances), the fact it has already been announced (written in the stars) and the fact I believe Liverpool to be the hungrier of the two sides on show leads me to my decision.

To boost my odds a little more on this bet I will also be adding the ‘and both teams to score’ option to bring the potential returns up to 4/1 (available at time of writing with William Hill and Betfair). To think that the two teams reaching the most elite football match in Domestic European football will not be able to find the back of the net here is naive at best, and foolish at worst in my opinion.

That is what my main bet will be, but will also be looking up the in-play markets whilst the match is underway. A bit of value that I have spotted that has a very plausible outcome in my opinion is in the half time/full time markets.

Liverpool/Real Madrid comes in at a huge 22/1. The reason I say this is plausible is because Liverpool are know to go at it like a bullet from a gun as soon as the whistle blows and have shown that they can pile waves of pressure on to an opponent, which more times than not has resulted in a goal and an early lead. Liverpool have also shown to wither as matches progress in to the later stages. There is a good chance in my opinion that Liverpool could take the lead and hold it to the half time whistle but then see that lead wiped out and built upon by an experienced Real Madrid side in the second half. Very good odds I believe and has also tempted my in to a side cover bet.

So my Champions League final predictions summarised are that Liverpool will raise the Champions League trophy within the 90 minute timeframe  on a ‘scoring more than the opposition’ basis. Liverpool have been banging in the goals right the way through the season and I don’t see them moving away from that strategy here, but their defence has also been criticised throughout the season. The arrival of Virgil Van Dyke has settled the ship slightly, but mistakes have still cost Liverpool goals and with Ronaldo on the pitch, I’m sure he will lap at least one up before the full time whistle. I just see Real Madrid leaving themselves with too much to do too late on and Liverpool nearing a victory by one goal.

2-1 to Liverpool – 12/1*

3-2 to Liverpool – 25/1*

In terms of who will be doing the scoring, that should pretty much be a gimme. Salah, Mane and Firmino are all viable contenders for Liverpool and it’s hard to loo past Ronaldo for Real Madrid with his Champions League record, or goalscoring record in general for that matter!

Mo Salah 2.30*

Ronaldo 1.82*

Firmino 3.40*

A decent bet here may be to hedge on the two main contenders; Ronaldo and Salah. One of them are very highly likely to pick it up after having exceptionally strong seasons and will offer a nice return even if you back both. This doesn’t really do any justice to my Champions League final predictions as this is a highly likely outcome, but I will still have a smile on my face if this bet does indeed pay off.

Ronaldo – 5/1*

Salah – 6/1*

That concludes my Champions League final predictions, thoughts and bets. These are by no means guaranteed, but I hope that my reasoning provides some substance behind the bet selections. Whatever you bet on, good luck and lets all hope it’s a match to remember!
