Cheltenham Day 3 selections

Welcome to our Cheltenham day 3 tips blog. A lot of uncertainty at this stage in the developments and as such, I will be waiting nearer the festival time to make any day 3 selections. I’m not one to pluck horses out of the air. I like to research thoroughly and feel like the value in the bet is in my hands and not the bookmakers.

Each selection I give will also be accompanied by a sound justification further down the page. This is so you can get a feel as to why I fancy the horse selected.

This will hopefully give you a little more trust in me that there is a degree of logic behind each pick. I’m sure as hell not going to be holding a 100% record come to the end of the festival so I feel it is important to lay out my thoughts on each and every pick. I am hoping, however, to pick more winners than losers – as is everybody else!

Cheltenham day 3 tips justifications

JLT Novices Chase – 13:30

TO WIN – DEFI DU SEUIL – This horse heads up the field as race favourite and has shown great improved form recently. It hasn’t been the most consistent but may have just timed good performances perfectly to create the confidence to go all the way here. Backed on the Betvictor app.

TO PLACE – VINNDICATION – One of the more consistent horses in the lineup that has shown it likes to finish the race ahead of the others. Plenty of career firsts already and always seem to be up there come the end of the race.

Handicap Hurdle – 14:10

TO WIN – SAMBURU SHUJAA – A wide open field here that could see any number of horses past the post first. I see recent form as a heavily weighted factor at Cheltenham and as such I’m going with Samburu Shujaa after picking up three back to back wins in its last 3 races. Backed on the William Hill app.

TO PLACE  – AARON LAD – Another horse that has picked up back to back wins recently and is at a very good price in my opinion. With such an open field though it may be wise to cut out the win part of the bet and take the lower odds from the ‘to place’ market.

Ryanair Chase – 14:50

TO WIN – FOOTPAD – This horse has been slightly off its best recently, but I see the Willie and Ruby partnership firing on all cylinders here to bring another win back home to the stable. We all know what Footpad is capable of and we know how well successful Willie Mullins has been at this festival. A good price on the win all in all. Backed on the Coral Sports App.

TO PLACE – UN DE SCEAUX – A horse with oodles of experience and putting in some good recent performances as well. Has been well rested and should be raring to go come the start of the race.

Stayers’ Hurdle – 15:30

TO WIN – FAUGHEEN – This horse has built up a big reputation but is up against a big challenge in the race favourite, Paisley Park. Paisley park has looked unstoppable recently, but again I see Ruby Walsh taking advantage of his vast experience and knowledge to get the best out of Faugheen. Especially if he wins with Footpad in the 14:50!

TO PLACE – SUPASUNDAE – I’ve always had a soft spot for this horse and rarely lets me down on an each way punt. Regularly finishes in the top 2 and is experienced enough not to get flustered on the day.

Festival Plate – 16:10

TO WIN – SIRUH DU LAC – A combination of better recent form and a stronger price leads me to select Siruh Du Lac over race favourite Janika. A lot of people are regarding this as a bit of a two horse race as far as the number one spot is concerned.

TO PLACE – DOITFORTHEVILLAGE – 20/1 is a good each way price in my opinion on a horse that has finished third, second, first and third in its last four races. A good shout as far as I’m concerned, especially with most bookmakers paying out on 5 places.

Mares’ Novices Hurdle – 16:50

TO WIN – MY SISTER SARAH – Another very open race that holds a lot of opportunity for a number of horses. One of which is My Sister Sarah. A good price at 10/1 and a record that is just as impressive as 7/4 favourite Epatante. lower stakes recommended here due to the openness of the field.

TO PLACE – LUST FOR GLORY – Nico de Boinville has been in fine riding form so far this festival. Therefore I’m willing to give his horse Lust For Glory a little credit in this race. A good price and good form, but nothing really that separates it away from any other runner in the field.

Challenge Cup Handicap Chase – 17:30

TO WIN – TOUCH KICK – I’m a big fan of this horse and looks like it is improving with every run it has. A good stayer and has shown there is plenty still in the tank come the final furlong.

TO PLACE – THE YOUNG MASTER – An inconsistent horse that has shown to either turn up and win or attend and fail miserably. A bit of a risk here but I am hoping for the former to occur in this race.

All bookmakers are offering very similar odds for each race, check out our guide to the best horse racing apps to see what the best site for you is.  All horses from each race have been well researched in order to determine the picks you see above. Feel free to use this information as you wish.
