The Premier League 2020/2021 is about to start but who has the easiest start?

We have crunched the numbers from the first 10 games to see who has the easiest start on average and who has the hardest!

With a sort pre-season fitness will potentially be an issue for the players and tougher games will put more of a strain on them.

Here is every ream rated from hardest to easiest* (average position of opposition from last season)

  1. West Ham 8.8
  2. Leeds 9.5
  3. West Brom 9.5
  4. Arsenal 9.7
  5. Newcastle United 9.8
  6. Brighton 9.9
  7. Manchester City 10
  8. Chelsea 10.1

  17. Manchester United 11.8
  18. Leicester City 11.8
  19. Everton 12
  20. Fulham 12.5

As you can see from the above list West Ham are in for a torrid time in the first 10 games with 8 of their matches against teams in the top half last season. It may be worth checking your betting apps for the odds on David Moyes being the first manager to be sacked!

Fulham look set for a run of games that could get their season off to a great start. I’ve been impressed with the work of Scott Paker with this Fulham team. He looks to have them playing well and organised. In the first 10 games, Fulham faces the other two promoted teams as well as Aston Villa and West Ham. They only play 4 teams from last seasons top 10 and do not meet any of last seasons top 4. If they are to stay up then getting some points from this start will be crucial as there will be harder games to come!

Parker is a manager I’ve been following for a while. There have been some interesting articles about his team talks and style going back to his playing days. Carlton Cole spoke of the players having tears in their eyes after a half time team talk for West Ham (Full story here). This was something Jose Mourino mentioned as well, in his Chelsea days Jose would let the players take turns to do the pre match team talk. On Scott Parkers day Jose said his team talk was so good the tea lady was ready to put her boots on and play!

Scott Parkers Fulham have the easiest start to the Premier League season

Of the traditional top 6 teams, Arsenal has the toughest start which could put some pressure on Arteta. In a 5 game run, they play Liverpool, Manchester City, Sheffield United, Leicester City and Manchester United. That is quite a run of games by anyone standard. If Arsenal is to make headway towards this seasons top 4 then the start of the season will be a real test of their capabilities.

*Data is created using the finished positions from the league last season. The newly promoted teams are in 18-19-20 positions based on the order they came up – ie Leeds are 18, Fulham are 20.
