Lucky bets explained

How Do Lucky Bets Work?

When we talk about “lucky bets” we’re not talking about being lucky with your bets! We’re talking about a multiple bet option that covers all the outcomes if you are backing 4, 5 or 6 outcomes.

We’ll explain how these bets work as well as where to find them if your betting on mobile site or app with the major bookies. All the best betting apps accommodate lucky bets, as well as other multiple betting options.

How lucky bets work

These bets work by covering all the possible multiple options for your selected number of results. These bets are very popular for horse racing betting and football. You can back them each way on horse racing but this will double your stake. Your stake is the amount you enter multiplied by the number of “lines” displayed.

Lucky 15 explained

The Lucky 15 is the most popular of these bets and is a total of 15 bets covering all possible outcomes over 4 selections. This multiple style bet means you will make a return as long as one of the outcomes wins (although this could still be an overall loss). The more that win the greater the returns, it’s as simple as that! You can even have an each way lucky 15 on horse racing. However, that would make it 30 betting lines in total.

Heres how it works –

The lucky 15 covers all possible outcomes of 4 bets like so –
4 Single bets
6 doubles – All double possibilities covered
4 trebles – All possible trebles covered
1 fourfold accumulator – All four to win

As you can see all the options are covered and it is often referred to as a full coverage bet. The more picks that go on to win the greater the returns. With a Lucky 15 bet it is possible to win back less than your stake.

If all four win, the overall win will be less than if you just place a straight accumulator for the same stake. This is a great way to reduce the risk of a bet and getting a decent return if you get close to all four results.

Most bookmakers offer the Lucky 15 facility and can be found within your multiple options from your betting slip when 4 selections are placed there. The TVG racing app has a wide range of multiple betting options for horse racing. You can also take advantage of their new customer offer if you are not already registered.

With this multiple covering 15 different bets, you need to be careful not to overspend on your stake when placing them. Remember that you are entering the amount for each bet rather than entering your total stake. A £1 bet on each line will result in a £15 total stake or outlay. Please see the image below from the Bwin android app which demonstrates this.

If you then take the bet each way, if available, your stake will go up to £30 and you will in effect have 2 bets running –

1 lucky 15 bet on the horses to win

1 lucky 15 on the horses to place

This is where it is worth checking out the returns of these bets in order to check what is right for you. If you get 1 horse winning and 2 places you’ll find a very low return. From my experiance, I’d say it would be better to use the “to place” market in this instance and have 1 lucky 15 bet.

Lucky 31 bet explained

This bet consists of a total of 31 bets covering all options as singles, doubles, trebles and a five-fold accumulator. By placing a Lucky 31 bet you can still achieve a good return even if you only get 3 or 4 of the results right depending on the odds of the results you pick.

The Lucky 31 bet is popular for horse racing and can be placed each way, this does mean the bet is 62 lines in total (and 62 x your stake).

What the bet includes –

Singles – All 5 covered
Doubles – All 10 possible doubles
Trebles – All 10 trebles covered
Four folds – All 5 covered
Five-fold – 1 Fivefold covering all 5 results

As you can see from this, the more selections on your lucky 31 bet that win the greater the potential returns. The maximum return will be displayed on bet slip if you are betting online and there are loads of odds calculators you can use to check your returns based on different outcomes.

All of the major bookmakers, including the Sports Interaction app, William Hill and Ladbrokes apps, offer a wide range of multiple bet options.

On Australian, USA and Canadian mobile betting apps these may be referred to as “Exotics” or “parlays” rather than multiples.

The same amount of selections (5 outcomes) can be covered without the singles in a “Canadian” this keeps your stake smaller (26 outcomes) and does not seem to affect the outcome too much. You would, of course, need to get 2 wins for any return rather than the one.

The good thing about a Lucky 31 is that with so many bets being bundled together you can still pick up a nice return, even if one leg lets you down. Stick down a straight accumulator and if one leg lets you down, all of your stake is wiped out.

However, you need to stick down 31 bets with a lucky 31, whereas a straight accumulator is just 1 bet. a £1 stake on each line of a lucky 31 equals a £31 stake. If you were to put £31 down on the straight accumulator and also £31 on a lucky 31, the accumulator will pay out more if all five selections land. As shown below on the Betway app betslip.

If your luck has been pretty poor of late, you may want to swing towards the Lucky 31. If your luck has been in then lumping on the straight accumulator may suit you better.

Lucky 63 bet explained

This bet is a 63 line bet that can only be placed against six possible outcomes. When placing a lucky 63 bet on your online account remember that the amount you put in the “stake” box is multiplied by 63 to give you the total stake. For example, if you enter your stake as £1 your total bet will be for £63, meaning you have £1 per line. Here’s what you get with this bet

Lucky 63 bet lines

6 single bets
15 double bets
20 treble bets
15 four folds
6 five folds
1 six folds
63 bets placed in total

As you can see from the above every option for this bet is covered and a lucky 63 bet is commonly referred to as a coverall bet.

To place a lucky63 bet from your mobile phone you will need to first pick 6 selections that you intend to bet or gamble on. This will then place the selections into your betting slip. You will then need to look out for the multiple options within your betting slip. These multiple options aren’t always immediately available and sometimes require a tap on a drop-down menu to access. Take the bet365 app for example;

Here I have selected 6 picks and have now opened up my betting slip…

Lucky 63 explained

You can see in the image that there is no mention of a lucky 63, but you will see a ‘multiple options’ drop down menu just above the yellow ‘place bet’ button. tap here and all multiple options are then opened up to you…

Now you can see the option to place a lucky 63. Now all you need to do is input the required amount you would like to place on each bet…

Remember that the amount you input will be multiplied by 63 so if you enter a £1 stake your total outlay will be £63 on this type of bet.

What are the best bookmakers for a lucky 63 bet? My top recommended bookie for multiple bets is Bet365, they have great odds on horse racing in my opinion.

Why would I place a Lucky bet? Most people place a lucky bet as you do not need to get every result right in order to make a profit. Depending on the odds you select you can make a profit even if only 3 win. The Lucky 63 bet also allows you to make a small return, or loss, even if you only get one result right.
