The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has reportedly booked several anchors, actors and influencers for promoting certain betting apps, which are in breach of the Public Gaming Act of 1867.

According to a report in The Hindu, "the action comes under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), following five separate FIRs registered in Panjagutta, Miyapur, Cyberabad, Suryapet, and Visakhapatnam."

Which Apps Were Promoted?

Several apps, including Junglee Rummy, A23, JeetWin and Lotus365, were promoted by these celebrities. Some of these apps were even suspected of laundering money in India.

Note: We do not recommend any of these apps on Betting Apps India.

The ED filed an Enforcement Case Information Report (ECIR) against 29 individuals in India for promoting these betting apps and receiving significant financial compensation in exchange for their advertisements.

Which Celebrities Were Booked?

According to the ECIR from the ED, the following people were summoned:

Actors: Rana Daggubati, Prakash Raj, Vijay Devarakonda, Manchu Lakshmi, Praneetha, and Nidhi Agarwal

TV and media personalities: Ananya Nagella, Siri Hanumanthu, Sreemukhi, Varshini Sounderajan, Vasanthi Krishnan, Shoba Shetty, Amrutha Chowdary, Nayani Pavani, Neha Pathan, Pandu, Padhmavathi, Imran Khan, Vishnu Priya, and Shyamala

Digital creators: Harsha Sai, Bayya Sunny Yadav, Tastyteja, Rithu Chowdhary, Bandaru Sheshayani Supritha, Ajay, Sunny, Sudheer

YouTube channel: Local Boy Nani

How Is This Different From Legal Betting Apps?

As we explained in our legal betting apps page, there is an important distinction between legal betting apps and those that are illegal.

For an app to not be considered illegal in India, it needs to fulfil specific criteria. If you bet online (all our recommendations on Betting Apps India are online operators), with a betting app that accepts payments in INR (to avoid breaking the FEMA law of 1999), you are not in breach of the Public Gaming Act of 1867.

If you have any doubt or uncertainty, read our detailed legal betting apps page that highlights all of the vital details to distinguish between illegal betting apps.

Which Betting Apps Can You Use?

We highly recommend using any of the operators we have listed on Betting Apps India as they all fulfil important criteria to ensure you are not betting on illegal apps.

We have a dedicated accounts management team that discusses several terms with each operator, and have verified the legitimacy of these betting apps.

We also highly recommend not using betting apps that you're unsure of, or any betting app that is located in India, like the ones mentioned in the ED case.

If you remain uncertain, may we suggest you have a look around at our main page on Betting Apps India.
