As we've stated, trust and safety while betting are major factors for us. Through the years, we've experienced a lot of different issues while betting, from not getting paid out to customer service treating us poorly when we approached them with problems.

Our Goal at Betting Apps Canada

Our goal is to help you find safe and legal betting apps that fit your style and preferences. Here’s how we do that:

We help you bet safely and confidently.

Not every sportsbook is worth your trust. We keep you informed about reputable, licensed operators, highlight potential red flags to avoid, and ensure our information is always up to date.

We only recommend betting brands that we trust and have used ourselves.

Helping guide you toward safe betting sites is important to us. We only highlight brands we’ve personally used and aim to keep things neutral. Canada’s sports betting market can be confusing, so our goal is to make it easier for readers to understand their options and find a trustworthy brand that fits what they’re looking for.

We make it easy to find the right app for you.

Whether you want the best app for live betting, the cleanest interface, or the best app for your favourite sport like hockey, football, or basketball, we break everything down clearly. We compare apps, review their features, and point you toward the options that match what you care about most.

Betting Apps by Province

If you’ve ever wondered "Which sports betting apps are available where I live?", you’re in the right spot. We broke it all down by province, making it easy to see which apps are available to download in each region.

Since every province in Canada handles sports betting a little differently, it can get confusing fast, especially with Ontario already regulated and others still exploring their options. That’s why we’ve created dedicated pages for the top provinces, so you can quickly find out which apps are available to you and stay up to date as new ones launch!

What does 'grey market' mean for sports betting in Canada?

Key Aspects of Grey Market Betting

    • These sportsbooks and apps operate legally in other countries and accept Canadian customers.
    • They are legal. Although they may not be licensed by Canadian regulators, these options remain legal for Canadian bettors to access.
    • Many popular international sportsbooks (like Pinnacle, Stake, and Parimatch) have long served Canadian players without local licences.

Note: Following the creation of Ontario's blueprint for regulated sports betting, discussions have arisen in other provinces about joining this regulatory effort, with Alberta aiming for an implementation date at the end of 2026.

    Betting Apps by Sport

We’re huge sports fans at Betting Apps Canada, and that passion is what got us into this industry. Our goal is to help you cut through the noise and find a betting app that truly fits what you’re looking for!

We only recommend betting apps we personally use and trust. That’s the foundation of this site. We’re here to point you toward safe, reliable options that we feel confident using with our own money.

Below are the betting apps we trust most for different sports. Click through to learn why we rate these brands so highly.

Betting Apps for Different Operating Systems

Its a continuous debate amongst smart phone users, "Which is better, iPhone or Android?" Luckily, betting brands create apps for both operating systems so it doesn't matter which one you prefer, there are betting apps available for you!

We have a combo of both iPhone and Adnroid users at Betting Apps Canada, so we're able to test both and find our favourites for each system.

    iPhone Betting Apps

If you’re using an iPhone, getting started with sports betting apps is simple. Most major sportsbooks have official apps on the App Store, so you can download and start betting in just a few taps. With mobile betting so popular, iPhone compatibility is a top priority for sportsbooks launching in Canada.

Through our own hands-on experience, we’ve tested most of these apps ourselves. We placed wagers, built parlays, and tested the live betting interface to create our list of favourite betting apps for iPhone.

    Android Betting Apps

    Google Play Store

In Canada, most major sportsbooks have Android betting apps with many of the popular betting apps available to download from the Play Store.

The apps not offered in the Play Store require you to install them manually using an APK(Android Package Kit) file from the sportsbook’s official website. This extra step might sound tricky, but it’s usually quick and safe as long as you’re downloading from a trusted source.

Once installed, the experience is nearly identical with smooth navigation, secure payments, and full access to betting markets.

We built our list of Android apps based on the user ratings from the Play Store, so all of our recommendations can be easily downloaded from the Play Store!

    How We Evaluate Betting Apps

A betting app’s success comes down to a mix of things like safety, reliability, betting features, and overall user experience.

We’ve broken down what we think are the most important factors in the list below. If something catches your eye or you’re not totally sure what it means, just click on it to learn more about how we look at that part of a betting app.

Understanding Licences and Sports Betting Regulations

    Safety & Reliability

This is the first and most important thing that we think about when rating a betting brand and its app. Before we even begin to look at the betting features, sports offered, and types of bets that it offers, we need to decide if we trust the brand.

A few different things go into this. First is finding out where the brand is licensed and if there have been any major disputes or stories about the brand that should be a cause for concern. Have there been stories about users getting scammed or lied to by the brand? We use these anecdotes as well as our own experiences to decide whether or not it's a brand that we want to analyze further and eventually recommend to our users.

Licensing is another big factor for us. Brands that are licensed locally with provincial licenses feel safer to us right away because we know the steps and the process that they went through to get that license. While offshore licensed brands can still be very safe to use, it takes some more research for us to be totally sure.

Once we have determined that we feel safe recommending a specific brand or betting app, then we go deeper and analyze things like user experience, betting features, sports offered, payment methods, and everything else that someone might want to know about a betting brand.

    User Experience

There are a few things that really stand out when it comes to how a betting app feels, mainly usability, design, and layout.

Usability is probably the biggest one. If an app lags or takes forever to load, it’s a pain, especially when you’re trying to place a live bet. No one wants to miss out just because the app couldn’t keep up.

The layout plays a big part too. A good one feels natural and easy to navigate, even if you’re not super experienced with betting apps.

And honestly, I just like when an app looks clean and modern. It makes the whole experience smoother and way more enjoyable.

    Betting Variety

We can expect a fairly standard variety of ways to play on betting apps. Point spreads, money lines, over/under, and multi-game parlays should come as no surprise to any bettor. However, more advanced ways to play may be offered on different betting apps, with there sometimes being a stark contrast in both the markets available and the level of quality offered.

    Types of Bets

Like we said previously, the vanilla bets we can expect. Spreads and moneylines don't do much to get the blood of an experienced bettor pumping after a little while. But more advanced types of bets, like same-game parlays, custom line creation, and live betting, can make a great betting app stand out in a sea of good betting apps.

    Sports Offered

The NHL, NFL, and NBA will be available on just about any betting app, and if they're not, you already know that you're in the wrong place. But a betting app that goes the extra mile can be very valuable to bettors.

If an app provides access to betting markets for various niche sports such as darts, table tennis, and snooker, you'll always have plenty of options for placing bets. Betway offers an excellent variety of betting markets. With a wide selection of eSports betting opportunities and a vast array of international leagues for popular sports like basketball and hockey, you'll find many ways to engage in wagering.

    Customer Support

Knowing that I can actually get in contact with someone when I have issues with a product or software is very important to me. It shows trustworthiness when there is a customer support system that lets me easily find answers to my questions or talk to someone to get it resolved.

Brands that have hard to reach customer support always feel like scam businesses to me. Especially in an industry like sports betting where money is involved, I believe having a trustworthy support system is a big deal.

    Payment Methods

There are usually several different ways you can fund your sports betting account, and ensuring that you're able to safely, securely, and conveniently do so is a major point of emphasis when evaluating a sportsbook.

Of course, most credit and debit cards are allowed on just about every major sports betting app we have listed here, as well as simple bank-to-business transfers.

Other common payment methods offered on Canadian betting apps include Interac, ecoPayz, Paysafecard, and MuchBetter.

The variety of payment methods, the deposit and withdrawal limits, as well as the time to withdraw are all elements that we look at when assigning scores to a betting app's banking.

What is Needed to Sign Up

    About Licences & Regulations

What a Locally Licensed Sportsbook Means:

When sports betting is regulated in a province, operators must be approved by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission and operate under specific rules. These apps are legally authorized to offer betting to people physically located in the province, and that comes with real consumer protections.

    • Strict identity verification and age checks
    • Secure payment processing for deposits and withdrawals
    • Responsible gaming tools, such as deposit and wagering limits
    • A formal complaint process through the Alcohol and Gaming Commissions

In short, there's brand oversight. If something goes wrong, there are regulators for you to contact. Check to see where different betting sites are licensed!

    What offshore licensing means:

Outside a regulated province like Ontario, many betting sites operate under offshore licences, often from jurisdictions like Malta or Curaçao. While many of these sites are legitimate businesses, they are not regulated in the same way. Users get:

    • No local consumer protection
    • Disputes must be handled through foreign regulators
    • Less transparency around how player funds are protected

The key difference is accountability. Offshore licensed betting apps are still fully legal to use. However, Canadian-regulated betting is designed with local player safety in mind, while offshore options add a little more risk in the event of a dispute or customer service concern.

Signing up for a new betting app is fairly straightforward and very similar to registering for other apps or software. Selecting any of the 'Visit' buttons will direct you to that sportsbook's website, where you can sign up. Most apps have a very similar process.

How to Sign up with a Betting App in Five Easy Steps
    1. Pick a new betting app from one of our lists
    2. Click one of the 'Visit' buttons throughout the site to visit the sportsbook
    3. Click on the Sign Up, Join or Create Account buttons when you get there
    4. Fill in your account details*
    5. Verify your email address

This information is used for identity verification and security. Many sportsbooks also let you set deposit and loss limits during signup, helping you stay in control. These built-in safeguards reinforce our belief that betting should be a fun, responsible hobby — not a source of income.

    Betting Apps FAQ

Is sports betting legal in Canada?

Yes. Sports betting is legal across Canada, but each province controls how betting apps operate within its borders. Currently, Ontario is the only province that has a regulated licensing system with Alberta expected to begin regulation in 2026.

Sports betting is still legal in the remainder of the provinces, with users able to access sportsbooks that are licensed offshore in locations like Malta and Curaçao.

What does it mean for a betting app to be provincially licensed?

It means the sportsbook is approved to operate legally in that province and must follow strict rules around consumer protection, responsible gambling, and financial transparency.

What’s the difference between provincially regulated apps and offshore apps?

Provincially regulated apps must follow Canadian consumer protection laws. Offshore apps are licensed in other jurisdictions and may not offer the same dispute resolution protections.

Why are some apps only available in Ontario?

Ontario has an open iGaming market regulated by iGaming Ontario, allowing private operators to apply for licenses.

Can bettors outside Ontario use foreign-licensed sportsbooks?

Yes. Many bettors outside Ontario can access sportsbooks licensed in overseas jurisdictions such as Malta Gaming Authority or Curaçao eGaming. These operators are not provincially regulated in Canada but may legally accept Canadian customers depending on provincial laws.

Do offshore sportsbooks offer the same consumer protections as Canadian licensed apps?

Not necessarily. While regulators like the Malta Gaming Authority have established standards, protections may differ from those required by Canadian provincial regulators.

Growing up in New England, it was pretty much impossible for me not to become a huge sports fan. Winters were spent snowboarding all morning then watching the Patriots win in the afternoons, so I never really had a choice. Now, I get to turn that passion into my work by writing about the sports betting world and helping Canadian bettors find the best betting apps for their needs. My goal is to break things down in a clear, honest, and approachable way, so readers feel confident and informed before placing a bet, like getting advice from a friend who’s already done the homework.
