Spreadex app verdict

Daniel McKenna

Spreadex has two sides to its business model, betting and trading, and has apps for each. The Spreadex betting app is a great betting product which is the only UK betting app that allows users to partake in both traditional fixed odds and spread betting in its eclectic sportsbook from the same account.

Spreadex provides a professional feel throughout its app, a huge amount of betting markets and boasts one of the biggest live-streaming catalogues out there, placing it in the top tier of UK betting apps.

SPREADEX APP REVIEW

Spreadex is without a doubt, one of the most stand-out betting apps on the market. As the only UK betting app that offers spread betting alongside traditional fixed odds markets with the same account, it provides a betting experience that is unlike any of its competitors.

Spreadex's huge sportsbook provides betting on plenty of fixtures and races worldwide, which are backed up by unique betting markets, many of which are specific to spread betting that offers big rewards if your selection comes in but does also come with its own set of risks.

What we like about the Spreadex app ✅

📺 High-quality live streaming is available across multiple sporting events within the app.

📱 The app is very fluid and easy to navigate, as all available sports are clearly listed on the home screen.

🤷 Their customer support is great. I was able to use the live chat function within the app, and get a detailed response within 2 minutes.

🎁 Great new customer offer which provides free bets on fixed odds and spread betting, as well as free spins.

🎮 Good focus on eSports, offering a competitive selection of events and markets.

💰 Multiple cash-out choices are available.

What Spreadex could improve ❌

❌ Spreadex could add eWallets to the payment options, which are limited to bank transfers and debit cards.

❌ Spreadex's layout could be a bit overwhelming for beginners.

❌ There is currently no Asian handicap on offer within the Spreadex app.

❌ No best odds guaranteed is on offer for horse racing.

❌ In-play specials are lacking across all sports.

Verdict 🤷‍♂️

If you've gone through a few betting apps and are really looking for something truly different, then Spreadex is a great option. Between the huge selection of markets, live streaming options and unique spread betting experience, Spreadex is one of the top-tier betting apps in the UK right now and I would definitely recommend checking it out.

Is Spreadex available on the Google Play Store?

Yes, the Spreadex betting app is available to download easily on the Google Play Store, just follow the steps below or check out our guide on how to get betting apps on your Android device.

Is spread betting riskier than fixed odds betting?

In short, yes. Given that your spread betting losses may exceed your deposit amounts and initial stake. Just make sure to always assess your situation and downsides before locking in your bets.

How do I cover spread betting losses if it exceeds my account balance?

We went directly to Spreadex with this question to get the best possible answer. You have two options, you either agree with Spreadex to a credit limit where Spreadex will allow you to go into a negative balance or Spreadex will ask you to deposit before placing spread bets to cover potential losses.

Is live streaming available on the Spreadex app?

Yes, live streaming is available across selected fixtures and races across various markets.

SPREADEX PROMOS FOR EXISTING CUSTOMERS

'2nd to a rag’ insurance

Spreadex's '2nd to a Rag' Insurance allows you to get your money back as a free bet of up to £25 if the horse you’ve backed finishes second to a winner with a starting price of 33/1 or greater and applies to all racing across Spreadex's sportsbook and not just UK and Irish meets.

While I do think this is a great offer, its requirements make it a tad restricting, especially compared to Grosvenor Sports' 'Horse Racing Cash Back' offer, where you can get up to £20 back in cash if your selection finished second to a starting price favourite, which is a lot more likely than 33/1.

First scorer insurance

The 'First scorer insurance' offer allows you to get your money back in a free bet of up to £25 if the player you have chosen in a first goalscorer bet fails to score first, but does score last. This offer is the strongest the Spreadex has on offer. However, the stipulations that come with the offer mean that it's still rather restricting compared to other insurance promos that are on the market, similar to Spreadex's '2nd to a Rag' promo'.

First past the post

'First Past the Post' works by protecting your winning bets when your horse wins on the racetrack but is later disqualified by race stewards for causing interference, which can happen often in horse racing. If this should happen, Spreadex will pay out for the newly promoted race winner and the original one before the demotion.

This type of offer is available across all UK and Irish meets and is very common across top-tier bookmakers such as Bet365, William Hill and BoyleSports.

Spread-Free bets

Spreadex's only spread betting promo is 'Spread-Free Bets', which means if you were placing three football spread bets on a Saturday morning on any of the qualifying football markets set out by Spreadex with stakes of £20, £10 and £20 respectively, you could then place a fourth bet of up to £10 at the mid-point of the spread.

For example: If your fourth bet was a supremacy spread bet and spreadex offered Everton/Arsenal at 0.2-0.4 you could buy or sell for £10 at the mid-point of 0.3.

Despite its name, 'Spread-Free Bets' is not actually a free bet offer. It just allows you to bet inside the spread at the mid-market point after placing qualifying bets on selected football markets.

WHAT IS SPREAD BETTING?

Spread betting differs from fixed odds in that the bookie sets the spread (or prediction) and you can ‘sell’ or ‘buy’ depending on if you think the outcome will be higher or lower, respectively. You are rewarded based on the more right you are, but the losses can be much greater if you are wrong.

The types of markets on offer with spread betting are different for each sport and having markets that you can't bet on elsewhere can really offer a whole new betting experience.

What to expect from Spreadex football

Spreadex offers both spread betting and traditional fixed odds betting on a huge selection of football markets from fixtures in 55 leagues across 29 countries, which isn't even considering the Champions League and various markets for other tournaments worldwide.

Navigation to the football markets section can be easily accessed by tapping the football icon on the home screen of the Spreadex app and browsing the fixtures on offer is very simple, as geographical markets can be filtered using the icons in the football section.

Fixed odds betting on Spreadex for football

Spreadex offers a wide variety of betting markets for football fixed odds betting, such as 'Total Team Tackles', 'Team A to Keep a Clean Sheet' & 'First Team to Score'. Acca fans benefit from a wide selection of games to choose from and navigating between leagues and fixtures is very easy.

Individual matches benefit from a great selection of player props markets, which can be found in the new 'Stats' tab, some of which include Player to score header, Player card markets & Player tackles.

Between fixed odds and spread betting, Spreadex offers 3000+ markets across all premier League games each weekend.

Spreadex's bet builder may have enough markets to satisfy casual punters, but it is by no means as in-depth as the likes of Betfair or Bet365. A noticeable omission from Spreadex's markets is Asian handicaps, so if that is a deal breaker for you then perhaps you'd be better off with either of the alternatives above.

Spread betting on Spreadex for football

Football spread betting is where Spreadex really comes into its own and allows punters to place wagers based on Spreadex's spread (prediction) across a multitude of markets and adds a whole new element to football betting that can't be found elsewhere.

These markets can be for individual matches, compiled over a match day or weekend or even longer-standing bets which won’t be settled until the end of the season. Each spread betting market has its own different formats and rules, which you can see by tapping the i button next to the market.

Spreadex group specials are specific spread bets which cover fixtures from both single matchdays and over an entire weekend. Depending on the market, these bets can be based on specific teams that spreadex has selected (multi-teams) or for all matches across the entire league (goal mine).

Football spread betting markets that can be found on the Spreadex app

As spread betting is unique to Spreadex in the UK betting app world, the markets on offer follow suit. We have compiled a list of some of the spread betting markets that you will find on the Spreadex app and a brief description of each.

Individual match markets for spread betting include:

    • Total goals - Total number of goals scored within the match (90 minutes only).

    • Total goals minutes - The total time in minutes of goals scored in the match. For example, if goals are scored in the 17th, 32nd and 82nd minutes of the match, the market settles at 131.

    • Shirts - The total number of all goal scorers in the match. For example, if goals are scored by numbers 9, 7, 10 and 11, the market settles at 37.

    • Corners squared - Total number of corners in a match is taken and then squared. For example, if there were 12 corners, the market settles at 144.

    • Goals cubed - Total number of goals in the game cubes. For example in a match with 4 goals the market would settle at 64.

    Matchday/Weekend spread betting markets include:

    • Goal mine - Takes into account how many goals there will be across the specified league, with each scoreline awarded points.

    • Total away goal minutes - Aggregates away goal times (in minutes) in a selected group of games. For example, if the away team’s total goal minutes are 9, 24, 45, 62, 86, 90 then the market settles at 316.

    • Top of the flops - Based on how many minutes will pass before the selected teams' score.

    Season spread betting markets include:

    • Season points - You can bet on a team’s total points at the end of a season.

    • Relegation Index - A prediction based on which teams will be relegated, based on a points system.

    • Total goals in a season - Calculates all goals scored in a season and provides the spread offerings on that.

    • Fastest yellow card - Time of the fastest yellow card in a season. The market is settled in seconds.

    SPREADEX HORSE RACING

Horse racing markets can be easily accessed from the app's home screen where you can either select one of the next upcoming races worldwide or you can tap the racing icon, which will bring you to the horse racing section where you can browse by location and races by time.

Spreadex provides good coverage across UK and Irish racing and covers all the meets that can be found across the top betting apps. International races have fairly good representation overall on the Spreadex app, but at the time of writing, there are missing markets on multiple European and Oceanian meets, including Vincennes (France), Waverley (NZ) and Port Lincoln (Aus), all of which can be found on Betfred, BetVictor and William hill.

Some of the features for horse racing fans include live streaming across nearly every UK and Irish meet and Timeform data which provides form across all runners and video analysis on the four front runners. These features can be found on other apps such as Grosvenor and Betway, but it is nice to see that Spreadex is keeping up with the pack in this regard.

The odds provided by Spreadex are fairly decent, but certainly could be more competitive with other betting apps on the market.

I took the odds given by Spreadex for multiple UK races today and compared them to Rhino Bet, Ladbrokes, Betway and BetUK. I found that Spreadex were competitive in the odds given for the front runners, but there was a difference in the odds given for the 'longshots' in each of these races, with all of Spreadex's competitors providing stronger odds.

Spreadex offers a wide selection of betting options for horse racing.

Spreadex odds prices tend to be less competitive for 'longshot' runners.

As well as race winner, Spreadex's fixed odds markets include the option to back a horse to place, pick a horse to win without the favourite and also offer extra place betting, which can be found by tapping the insurance icon within your race choice.

Spread betting on Spreading for horse racing

Spread betting for racing works in a similar way to football. You can get with or against a particular horse through the Spreadex index market where there are two indices based on points given and you can back over or under what you think the outcome will be.

If you buy on a horse, the best outcome for your bet would be if your horse wins, but you can also make a profit if it places, it just depends on what the spread is.

    HORSE RACING POINTS INDEX

The main market you will see for spread betting on the horses on the Spreadex app is called the 'Race indices' market. This means that points are awarded to horses in the below formats and you can 'buy' or 'sell' on the spread of an individual horse based on what you think the outcome will be.

For races with 11 runners or fewer, there is a 50-25-10 points index:

    • 50 points for the race winner.

    • 25 points for second place.

    • 10 points for third place.

For races with 12 runners or more, there is a 50-30-20-10 points index:

    • 50 points for the race winner.

    • 30 points for second place.

    • 20 points for third place.

    • 10 points for fourth place.

The points difference will determine the amount you could win or lose in your bet, as it is multiplied by your original stake.

So, for example, if the favourite in a 12-runner race in Cheltenham has a spread of 35-38, you could sell on the spread at £5 a point at 35. But, if the horse finishes first and was awarded 50 points, you would lose £75. However, if the horse finished 2nd and was awarded 30 points, you would then win £25.

As with football, Spreadex provides spread betting markets which are specific to horse racing and cover both individual races and an entire meeting. Each of these markets is exclusive to the Spreadex sportsbook and allows users to dig deep into specific elements of multiple races and bet accordingly.

Spread betting markets for horse racing in the Spreadex app include:

    • Double Number of Winner
    • Race Squared Number
    • Race Multi-Mules

Timeform data and analysis are provided for UK and Irish runners in the Spreadex app. The information is particularly useful when you're using spread betting markets that you're unfamiliar with, or you're faced with factors that aren't usually considered with fixed odds betting. For example, if you were betting on the spread of a 'Multi-Mules' market, you would need to consider both the winner and who places second.

Three i Phones showing an example of the Spread betting markets in the Spreadex app

Spread betting markets are available in individual races and across entire meets, with coupons available for selected races.

    'BEST OF THE REST'

    🎾 Tennis 🎾

Spreadex is a great option for tennis fans as it has lots to offer in its comprehensive in-play selection. Spreadex offers markets from ITF, WTA, ATP & UTR tournaments in both fixed odds and spread betting, where you can buy or sell on total games, total sets or player to win the match. You can also get into more specific spread betting markets that are unique to the Spreadex app such as X-Courts and Cross Points.

    ️⛳️ Golf ️⛳️

For fixed odds betting on golf, the Spreadex app offers matchbet, 3-ball match betting and has multiple markets to choose from such as 'Wire 2 Wire Leaderboard', 'Hotshots' and player performances.

Golf is one of the best sports for live spread betting, as tournaments play out over a longer period of time, so, therefore, presents more opportunities to find value. Spread betting on golf is based on the specifications of certain markets such as 'Tournament winner betting' which has a points system, similar to horse racing or Hotshots, where players are categorised by nationality and you can be on the spread of how many points you think they will get.

All markets are available across PGA and European tours and in-play markets are available across all matches in both fixed odds and spread betting.

    🏈 American Football 🏈

Spreadex's American football offerings cover various markets such as individual player props and live streaming is available on nearly all NFL matches and punters benefit from pre-match stats from both teams' last two fixtures. Offering NFL fans more than can be found in other betting apps on the market, such as Betway and Grosvenor.

    🏀 Basketball 🏀

Spreadex has fixed odds and spread betting available in fixtures across 14 European and international leagues, with in-play handicap betting available on most fixtures and graphics and stats while the game is in-play.

    🤖 Virtual sports 🤖

Spreadex offers one of the best virtual sports offerings on the market with markets available across Virtual football, horse racing, greyhounds, badminton, motor racing and table tennis. All sports feature a high-quality stream of your chosen match or race.

    🏉 Rugby 🏉

I would consider Spreadex to be one of the best betting apps for Rugby betting. This is due to offering a much larger selection of both pre-match and in-play markets than the likes of Rhino Bet and BetUK and keeping up with arguably more established brands such as Ladbrokes and William Hill.

The player props markets on offer are a particular stand-out for me, as they cover both fixed odds and spread betting and the ability to find new markets through spread betting further enhances the betting experience.

I Phones showing betting markets for rugby league and in play markets for a rugby match

With a large selection of pre-match and in-play betting markets, Spreadex is one of the best UK betting apps for both rugby league and rugby union

    SPREADEX ESPORTS

Spreadex offers a nice selection of Esports betting choices, and the various markets on offer compete with those of the 'big boys' of the betting apps world, such as Bet365, Ladbrokes and Betfred.

A particular standout for me is that Spreadex offers markets on Fifa, which are not available on any of the aforementioned apps, and the markets on choice reflect those that you can find on fixed odds and spread betting in normal football matches such as 'Goals Cubed' and 'Goal Rush'. This makes it a lot easier for punters who may be new to Esports to understand the markets easier and get involved.

Spreadex has offerings on matches from titles such as:

    • CS:GO
    • Fifa
    • Dota 2
    • League of Legends

    Spreadex CS:GO

The largest selection of Esports markets on Spreadex are for CS:GO matches. Spreadex has a good selection of in-play options available across a comprehensive selection of matches and tournaments and live streaming available for selected matches.

That being said though, this is another example of where Spreadex could have gone a step further and offered special bets and frequent odds boosts to coincide with current and upcoming tournaments. The offerings are there, but seem a tad lacklustre in comparison to what can be found on Betway, which is certainly one of the best UK betting apps out there right now for Esports.

    SPREADEX FEATURES

Spreadex's USP may be that they bring spread betting to the table, but they also deliver all the features that you would expect from a betting app in 2023.

All of the features in the Spreadex app are of a really high standard and have plenty to offer those who are interested in both fixed odds and spread betting across a wide selection of sports worldwide.

    Spreadex in-play betting

Spreadex's in-play section, which can be found by tapping the icon at the bottom of your screen within the app, features a comprehensive selection of fixed odds and spread betting odds on football, cricket, tennis, darts, snooker and more.

Within darts, you can buy or sell spreads in various markets across individual legs and have specific markets that are based on aggregate checkout scores and allow you to bet on the spread such as 'Checkout Ton or Bust'.

The in-play offering for basketball is particularly fantastic in the choice of matches on offer. At the time of writing, there are 10 different in-play matches to choose from on the Spreadex app and comparatively, William Hill has 8 and Paddy Power only has 7.

Iphone showing Spreadexs in play markets

Spreadex huge selection of markets, match graphics and in-depth stats make for a stellar in-play betting experience.

    Spreadex Live Streaming

While you are in the in-play section of the app, you will also see the 'Streaming' icon, where you will find a list of all the events that are available to view, which includes football, horse racing, greyhounds, tennis, cricket, snooker and more.

The selection of live streaming on the Spreadex app is extremely comprehensive, compared with other UK betting apps.

    Spreadex Cash Out

There are three cash out options on offer in the Spreadex app.

    1. One-Click Cash Out is the traditional cashout option that you will find across most betting apps and allows you to close bets early either to take a profit or cut a loss. You do this by tapping the 'Cash out' icon in the 'Open Bets' section.
    2. Partial Cash Out allows you to take a portion out of your ongoing bets to secure any profits you may have or to decrease your potential losses. The process is simple and can be done in the 'Open Bets' section of your Spreadex app where you can use the slider option to nominate how much of the bet you wish to close out - for fixed odds singles and multiples.
    3. Auto Cash Out allows you to place bets that automatically close out if your in-play position reaches a nominated level of profit. You can edit your Auto Cash Out levels by clicking on the Cog icon next to the bet you wish to edit within the 'Open Bets' section.

MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE WITH SPREADEX CUSTOMER SERVICE
    Daniel McKenna

    Daniel McKenna

While some operators do have a live chat function available, it can often be quite slow to load and you could be waiting in a queue for quite a while. I experienced this with Grosvenor Sports, for example, but things were quite different with Spreadex.

I had seen that multiple customer reviews on both the iOS app store and Google play store mentioned the excellent level of customer service, but I wanted to personally try it out and share my experience.

I sent a query to Spreadex through both the email and their live chat simultaneously to see response times and if they differed. I heard back from Henry at Spreadex within two minutes on both platforms, he even acknowledged on live chat that he had also emailed me back.

The answer I received to my query was detailed and any follow-up questions I had were answered quickly. All in all, the time spent finding the Spreadex customer service contact methods, sending my query and then getting my answer was no longer than 5 minutes.

I felt that highlighting this level of customer service was particularly important, as this is not always the case with Spreadex’s competitors on the market.

It can be really anxiety-inducing when dealing you’re with anything financial and it goes wrong, so I believe that it's important to feel that the app you’re using is secure and support is at hand should you need it.

I can say from my own experience that the level of customer service at Spreadex is very good, certainly as good as the most popular sportsbook brands out there, such as Bet365 and Ladbrokes.

Should you have an issue, you can be safe in the knowledge that you will receive support from an actual person on the other end and not a bot and your questions will be answered.

    Thanks Henry!

Spreadex is a great choice for football and horse racing fans and has an overall solid sportsbook that covers a wide selection of markets for both fixed odds and spread betting. Spreadex's spread betting options provide betting markets that can't be found elsewhere which means that Spreadex should certainly be considered if you're a bit tired of the same old betting app and fancy a change.
