Alberta Online Sports Betting Launch FAQs

When will Alberta’s regulated betting market launch?

The regulated Alberta market is expected to launch on July 13, 2026. The list of sportsbooks planning to enter the new market grows daily as different operators get approved begin receiving their licences.

Will current betting apps still work in Alberta after regulation begins?

Some offshore sportsbooks that do not join the market will remain accessible but regulated sportsbooks will offer stronger consumer protections, clearer rules, and oversight from Alberta regulators.

If an app moves from the offshore market to the new regulated market, you will need to download the new regulated version of the app.

Why is regulation important for sports betting apps?

Regulation helps ensure sportsbooks operate fairly and securely. Approved apps must follow rules related to responsible gambling, player protection, identity verification, and strict payout standards.

Will regulated Alberta betting apps offer welcome bonuses?

Yes. Most sportsbooks entering Alberta are expected to compete heavily for new users with welcome offers, bonus bets, odds boosts, and other promotions when the market launches.

How many betting apps are expected to launch in Alberta?

The final number is still unknown, but many expect there could be as many as 30 betting apps ready to go on launch day. Additional operators may continue entering the market after the initial launch.
